Summary

From the acclaimed author of Forever, Interrupted and After I Do comes a breathtaking new novel about a young woman whose fate hinges on the choice she makes after bumping into an old flame; in alternating chapters, we see two possible scenarios unfold—with stunningly different results。

At the age of twenty-nine, Hannah Martin still has no idea what she wants to do with her life。 She has lived in six different cities and held countless meaningless jobs since graduating college。 On the heels of leaving yet another city, Hannah moves back to her hometown of Los Angeles and takes up residence in her best friend Gabby’s guestroom。 Shortly after getting back to town, Hannah goes out to a bar one night with Gabby and meets up with her high school boyfriend, Ethan。

Just after midnight, Gabby asks Hannah if she’s ready to go。 A moment later, Ethan offers to give her a ride later if she wants to stay。 Hannah hesitates。 What happens if she leaves with Gabby? What happens if she leaves with Ethan?

In concurrent storylines, Hannah lives out the effects of each decision。 Quickly, these parallel universes develop into radically different stories with large-scale consequences for Hannah, as well as the people around her。 As the two alternate realities run their course, Maybe in Another Life raises questions about fate and true love: Is anything meant to be? How much in our life is determined by chance? And perhaps, most compellingly: Is there such a thing as a soul mate?

Hannah believes there is。 And, in both worlds, she believes she’s found him。

This is my least favorite Taylor Jenkins Reid book I've read。 I think that's probably due to it being her early work。 It was an average story for me, continually jumping back and forth between one "what-if" situation and another。 This is my least favorite Taylor Jenkins Reid book I've read。 I think that's probably due to it being her early work。 It was an average story for me, continually jumping back and forth between one "what-if" situation and another。 。。。more

Jump right inI jumped right into this story, thanks to the marvelous character creation of Hannah。 I won't give anything away, but if you're a fan of quantum mechanics, you're in the right book! I loved this idea of parallel universes! The life lessons explored were beautiful, and taught me so much。 This story showed me that what is meant to be will be。

I loved it。 I read it one day。 This was the best premise for a book。 What if you do something that will change the rest of your life。 She is an excellent writer。 Her books are great!!!

Estoy convencida que no importan los otros universos, ninguno es más dulce que este。 Me voy a llorar un rato, luego vuelvo a reseñar este libro。

3。5 rounded to 4 stars! Taylor Jenkins Reid never does me wrong。 I didn’t find the characters as developed as I did in her other novels (Daisy Jones, Evelyn Hugo, etc。) but it was still a quick fun read, with an interesting concept about how one decision can change the course of your life。

Čtivá a krátká knížka, která sice nebyla takovou bombou jako autorčiny novější knihy, ale i tak to bylo příjemné počtení。

I hadn’t seen this book much of anywhere until I was scrolling on Amazon and it caught my attention。 I had multiple books sitting on my shelf waiting to be read and I wanted to save this one for last but I’m left extremely confused and disappointed。 This book was not terrible by any means! We get it, she's obsessed with buns。 Cinnamon, her hair, her hospital gown being open in the back 😂Anyway, my love affair with TJR continues。 Definitely not as strong as Seven Husbands or Daisy Jones but such a fun read that I really couldn't put down。 We get it, she's obsessed with buns。 Cinnamon, her hair, her hospital gown being open in the back 😂Anyway, my love affair with TJR continues。 Definitely not as strong as Seven Husbands or Daisy Jones but such a fun read that I really couldn't put down。 。。。more

“We can’t say what we would do in other circumstances。 We can only know what we will do with the ones we face。”This was cute。 Wasn’t my absolute favorite and no where near as good as Evelyn Hugo, but since this was published first that’s to be expected。 The story line was unique, intriguing, and just enjoyable enough to make me want to finishing reading。

I’ve read other multiverse books that were much better - maybe in another life that was this book, but it wasn’t for this reality。 Also, every character was awful。

This book was so hard to put down and I am really glad it lived up to all the expectations I had for it。 The "sliding doors" trope was done very well, showing two alternate realities dependent on a single choice made by the main character of Hannah。 I felt like both realities were well balanced, each having elements that I did and didn't like but I enjoyed them each so much。 I definitely felt the importance this book was putting on the value of female friendship and I loved that aspect in both p This book was so hard to put down and I am really glad it lived up to all the expectations I had for it。 The "sliding doors" trope was done very well, showing two alternate realities dependent on a single choice made by the main character of Hannah。 I felt like both realities were well balanced, each having elements that I did and didn't like but I enjoyed them each so much。 I definitely felt the importance this book was putting on the value of female friendship and I loved that aspect in both plots。 I didn't necessarily feel that connected to either love interest but I was okay with that because I really enjoyed the journeys that Hannah went on in terms of self-discovery and found the romances playing second fiddle to both that as well as her friendship with Gabby。While I did wish for some sort of resolution at the end regarding which reality was the "real" one, I was okay with the endings of both as they made sense relating to the entirety of the stories prior。 This makes for a quick and absorbing read that would be a perfect vacation read for fans of Women's Fiction。 Reid's talent for storytelling is front and center and I loved the journey this book brought me on。 。。。more

Some interesting thoughts on the interplay between “fate,” the choices we make, and pure chance - and how much weight we assign to each based on how things play out。
